Chapter Four

David POV

“We are heading to my parents place” I say to the chauffeur before signalling to him to wind the glass up, creating a private space for me as we head to my parents place, one of the many perks of owning a limousine.

My phone buzzes, my assistant Raymond reminding me that today is my day off. He must think I have dementia because this is the fourth time he has reminded me in the span of two days to not come to work. Some can even classify it has a subtle warning, but he’s the only one I’d accept that from, seeing how far we have come together.

The glass rolls down, Edward peeking behind the wheel, a rigid smile on his face as he faces me, “we have arrived at your parents home”.

I nod, “thank you Edward” I say, stepping down from the car as he holds out the door for me. “You don’t need to wait for me, I’ll see you later this evening at the event” I say, walking towards the door, without waiting for a response.

“Good morning Sir” the maid says, smiling from ear to ear, “happy birthday!”. I smile, “thank you, please where are my parents?”

“Alana and Carry are currently in their joint study” she says, a smile still on her face. I nod, “thanks” I say, walking away from her.

The way she addresses my parents doesn’t surprise me, they must have made her do so even if she wasn’t comfortable with it, probably even threatened to fire her if she didn’t.

My parents hate to be called snobby names especially in their own home, their down to earth personality is probably the main reason behind this.

I gently knock on the door, patiently waiting for a response before letting myself in. As a child my dad had constantly scolded me whenever I let myself into a room without being invited by the occupant of that room. That’s probably one of the many reasons why I’m not keen on other people’s business.

“Come in” I hear dad say, his deep voice resounding from behind the door. “Dad” I say, a smile on my face as I walk into the room, the smell of jadore and musk filling my nostrils.

“Look who’s here Alana” dad says, walking towards me, his arms wide open, “happy birthday my dearest and Favourite son”.

I chuckle, “thank you dad but I don’t think Dev will like that”. He laughs, “that’s true, but I also told him that on his birthday. So how does it feel to be thirty-five, you’re officially a grown man”.

I chuckle, rolling my eyes, “you said the same thing when I turned twenty-five”. He nods, “yes, that’s because there are different levels of becoming a man”

“You also said that when I turned twenty-one, twenty-eight, thirty, should I go on?” I smirk.

“Won’t you even greet your old mother?” Mum says standing to her feet, an amused look on her face after watching the show between her loving husband and son.

“You’re anything but old, if for anything you’re a hot mom” I smile. “Hi mom” I say, pulling her into a hug, “happy birthday David” she says, smiling.

“Thank you mom” I say, stepping back as I release her from my embrace. “So how do you plan to spend the day” she says, walking towards the sofa before elegantly settling on it.

I smile, “asides from the birthday dinner you both are hosting for me this evening, I have nothing planned”

She nods thoughtfully, “well, I hope that changes with time. And it will after the announcement we make this evening” she says, looking lovingly at dad before her eyes settle on me.

A small smile forms on my lips, which is nothing like the excitement that I’m feeling inside. It’s taking all that’s in me to not do a dance out of excitement, and I never dance, that’s how important  the announcement is to me.

This announcement is something I have waited for all my life, and I don’t mean it figuratively. From the moment I was born until now, I have been trained for this announcement. Becoming the CEO of Luna Enterprises is my rightful position as the first son.

“It will mom” I smile. She nods, a ghost of a smile on her face, “I’m glad you are excited about the news that will be announced tonight. It’s a really big change, but we have decided that the time is now!” She says, looking at dad, her eyes uneasy before returning to me.

“Let’s have a birthday breakfast while you’re here” dad says, changing the conversation. Mom nods, “it’d be like when you were much younger, you were always excited for your gift reveal”

I smile, “sure, let’s have breakfast. It’s not like I have anything better to do, I’ve been forced to take a mandatory leave”.

Dad gasps, “oh no, the horror!” he chuckles. I laugh, “very funny dad, let’s go” I say, clasping an arm around his shoulder, with mom leading the way.
