Zoe’s POV “What the fuck is going on here?” Dillon thundered, stomping over to the edge of the pool, then looking back at Julia and I with a venomous glare. “Dillon, thank Goddess!” Blair whined, playing the wounded damsel role to perfection. “Did you see what she did to me? She attacked me for no reason! We need to report her to the Alpha before she goes around hurting other innocent pack members!” I rolled my eyes at her performance and Julia snorted behind me, totally unimpressed and unconcerned. But then again, why would she be? She hadn’t just assaulted the woman. Surely Dillon wouldn’t believe her, though. Would he? “Is that true?” Dillon demanded, still wearing a deadly snarl on his face. “She’s the one in the pool. Infer from that what you will.” I shrugged, refusing to apologize for what I’d done. The bitch deserved it. “Of course that’s not true!” Julia jumped to my defense. “How could you even ask such a thing? You can’t possibly believe Zoe would attack her un
Dillon’s POV Zoe’s claws drew blood as they sunk into my forearms, but whether she was trying to get out of my hold or anchor herself to me, I couldn’t tell. “You sent the video.” She hissed at Blair. Her words hit me like an oncoming train, nearly crushing me as the truth of them sunk in. As soon as Zoe made the accusation, I knew she was right. But even so, the twisted grin on Blair’s face confirmed just how proud she was of the act. I lunged forward before anyone could stop me, and wrapped my hands around her throat, squeezing painfully. My wolf was in control, snarling and teeth snapping inches from her face as she fought for air. “St-, stop,” she coughed out, clawing at my hands, trying to loosen my grasp. “Dorian, let her go.” Zoe spoke softly to my wolf, placing her hand on my back and rubbing it gently. “She’s not worth it. Let Dillon come back.” After a few heaving breaths trying to calm himself, Dorian dropped Blair to the floor. She just sat there on her hands an
Dillon’s POV “Wh-,what?” She stuttered. Zoe’s gorgeous blue eyes stared back at me, searching for the meaning behind my words. Even with tears staining her face, she was the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen and I could have let myself drown in her penetrating gaze. But I didn’t. Instead, I forced myself to only show her my steel resolve. “I, Dillon Kane, Gamma of the Glass Lake Pack, re-, unh!” Zoe slammed her hand over my mouth, stopping me from finishing the rejection. “Don’t you fucking dare reject me, Dillon!” She growled angrily. “You don’t get to do that! Especially not in some misguided attempt to be noble, sparing me more heartbreak or some other dumb shit! “I’m perfectly capable of deciding for myself what I am and am not willing to tolerate. You don’t get to decide that for me, no matter how well intentioned it was. Besides, if anyone gets to reject somebody in this bond, it’s me!” “You’re right. You should be the one to do it. Go ahead.” I said stoically, clenching m
Dillon’s POV Watching Zoe walk away was like watching my heart leave my body. But at least this time I knew I would be holding her again soon. Because she was finally mine. Mine! Despite being a Gamma and the best warrior in our pack, I considered myself a mostly peaceful person. I only fought when circumstances demanded it, my Alphas, Luna or my pack being threatened. But someone hurting my mate was a whole different story and Blair’s threats were hurting Zoe. My wolf wanted to rip her heart from her chest and crush it in his hands. And every step we took closer to her apartment, his bloodlust was only rising. It was going to take all my strength to stop him from killing her in cold blood. But as angry as I was, I wanted to try a peaceful approach first. Though I realized now that Blair always had an agenda, I had always considered her a friend. I hoped I could convince her to let this ridiculous obsession go and wait for the one the Moon Goddess made for her. “End her now!
Dillon’s POV I hurried to meet Zoe at our cabin in the woods, the one where we’d made love for the first time. I couldn’t wait to see her and tell her the good news, that the Alphas were going to help handle Blair. I couldn’t wait to hold her knowing she was finally accepting our bond. I remembered where the key to the front door was hidden and quickly fished it out to let myself in. If my stubborn little baby doll was in an obedient mood, she would be waiting in bed for me completely naked and that’s exactly where I hoped to find her. All was quiet when I entered the house and anxiously made my way to the bedroom. I pushed the door open soundlessly and what I saw behind it melted my heart. Zoe was curled up in the bed, laying on her side with the sheet tucked up under her chin, fast asleep. I quickly stripped out of my clothes and tiptoed around the bed to crawl in beside her. But the sight that met me when I pulled the covers back had me instantly hard and a string of expletive
Zoe’s POV I hadn’t planned to tell Dillon I loved him. In fact, given the events of the day, I surprised even myself when the words slipped free. But no matter how long and hard I’d fought the emotion, I could no longer deny the truth of it. And holding back from each other had brought both of us nothing but misery. I didn’t want to hold back anymore. Dillon’s pupils dilated in shock as my words registered with him. I ducked my head shyly, suddenly embarrassed by my outburst. But Dillon lifted my chin to face him and the pure joy in his eyes erased all my concerns. “Oh no you don’t! You can’t say something like that to me then hide. Say it again, love. Let me stare deep into those gorgeous baby blues when you do. And you stare right back intp my eyes, read in them everything I don’t have the words to say until you understand exactly how I feel about you.” He charged, not even his signature teasing grin enough to hide the depth of his emotions. “Whew!” I fanned myself playfully. “
Zoe’s POV The next morning I woke up to an empty bed, one neither of us had actually been sleeping in very long. Still, going to sleep together and waking up alone was becoming a bad habit for the two of us. One I planned to remedy very soon. Thankfully, the delightful smell of bacon told me my wayward mate hadn’t gone very far. The smell had me hopping out of bed, pulling Dillon’s shirt over my head and tiptoeing to the kitchen. But when I got there, more than the food had me drooling. Dillon was in nothing but a very tight pair of boxers that hugged his very fine ass to perfection. The muscles in his back flexed as he moved, stirring this and flipping that. And those strong thighs, the same ones I had very fond memories of, tensed with every thrust as he railed into me over and over again last night had my mouth watering for a very different kind of meat. “Shit! Shit! Shit!” Dillon’s curses stirred me from the spot where I stood leaning against the doorframe, admiring the vi
Dillon’s POV This was a bad idea. A very bad idea. I glanced at Zoe who sat stiff-backed in the passenger seat next to me. She was putting on a brave face but deep down, I knew this was costing her. I could only hope the Alphas silenced Blair before she had a chance to spew more venom Zoe’s way. I understood the morbid need she felt to be there when I met Blair. If it were her running off to confront an ex, no power on earth could stop me from going with her, ready to step in and take him down at the slightest provocation. I sure as fuck wouldn’t let him touch her. “You’ll need to go in first and I’ll sneak in a few minutes later.” Zoe’s matter-of fact comment pulled me from my thoughts. “What?” I asked, trying to catch up. “Well, we can’t exactly walk in together. She’ll know something is up if we do. And I’d rather the Alphas not see me since I haven’t told Zayne about us yet. But you better do your best to keep your distance because I can’t be held responsible for my act
