9. Lamb For The Slaughter I

SELENE

A glass vase that was on display now laid on the smooth clean floor in pieces. I looked up at the one that did it.

Valerie covered her mouth with her fan, eyes wide.

"Excuse my slippery fingers," Valerie said. "Please carry on, don't let me stop you."

"I'll have someone clean this up." Carl gets up to search for one of the housekeepers.

Ethan's eyes narrowed, but he turned to me and put on a pleasant expression. "They have it handled here," he said.

He rested his hand on my back and led me away.

He took me up the stairs to a higher floor.

"What about the bags?" I asked him, earning a chuckle.

"They should already be in our room. The staff works quickly here."

He planted a kiss on my head, urging me to smile.

So I did. And I did him one better.

When we got to the landing, I placed my hand on his cheek and kissed him on the lips. I couldn't get enough of him or his scent.
