Forty Six

After making it out of the building where I was kept hostage. I take various turns from what appears to be a dark tunnel rather than the hallway it is.

As my body enters the cool night, my skin tightens and my legs tingle.

Before celebrating my escape, I run another mile.

I take another look back, trying to recover my breath, with the building almost out of sight. But, after focusing on what it appears to be, I turn my attention to what lies ahead of me.

As I stare about amid the darkness, my arms travel up my torso, folding.

I'm not sure where I am. I'm not sure if I'm still in the city. Even if I am, I am not familiar with the city.

I don't have my phone, no shoes, and I'm completely naked.

This nightgown barely covers my body. And the wind has absolute control over it.

I unexpectedly scream out, and even my tears are frigid as I cry quietly.

I start heading into the darkness again, praying that I'm still in the city, because if I'm not, I'll die.

It's all over.
