"Why is alpha Roger staring at you?" I whisper to Laura while perched on her shoulder like a parrot.

"Because he is a creep."

I snort and let my eyes roam over Roger. He doesn't look bad, but the frown on his face makes him appear daunting and unapproachable. Reserved. Even a bit mean.

"Why haven't you rejected him yet if Caleb is the one you want?"

"Honestly?" Laura sighs. "I don't know. I should do it before he leaves with the rest of his pack."

"Laura?"

"Oh, shit," I whisper. "Alpha Roger incoming."

Laura squares her shoulders. We are sitting outside on the field, where the Rivermoon pack will practice soon. A good spot for me to spy on Ryan, but he isn't here yet.

"What do you want?" Laura lifts her chin to regard Roger. She seems uncomfortable, judging from her tensing shoulder muscles.

Roger isn't intimidated by her tone. "Thank you for saving my life and staying the night with me."
