James POV

After Kane’s letter was read, the hall fell so silent that you could almost hear the proverbial pin drop. I could even see that a few Alphas had begun to anxiously sweat, despite the cold temperature of the room.

Most of them were scared now, and no one could blame them.

Alpha Kane had just threatened to kill us all if we tried to take Avery, Marie and Brianne from the north. And everyone of us knew from painful experience that Kane was a man of his word. He did not make threats lightly.

The hall remained into a quiet as Elder Novak proceeded to open the package Alpha Kane had sent. Inside was a set of rare and valuable western knives, clearly hand crafted by most of our highly trained warriors.

It was proof that someone from the west had truly been foolish enough to attack the north, but who? Who else besides me wanted Avery so badly that they wanted to risk a war for her sake?
