46. Smoothing Things Over

Taesha sat quietly in the car with Riley. Still very much upset and, at the same time, worried about Dexter.

“What was all the commotion about back there?” Taesha wondered. She was tired of being unable to figure it out on her own, so she turned and said to Riley.

“I know you and your family feel I have no right to know what’s going on, but I sincerely care about Dexter. Is he okay? Can you at least tell me that much?”

Riley looks at her and sighs. “Look, if Dexter brought you to meet the family, you must be pretty special to him. But I think what has taken place tonight. You should discuss that with my cousin.”

“But what happened? I’m confused. Everything was going along okay, and I was suddenly pushed out of the front door. You must know that wasn’t right, and it was rude.” Taesha says, eyeing him, waiting on a reply.

“I apologize if you felt my family was being rude to you. It’s just that we are the only child to our parents, and our mothers and Gamma can be very protective of us
