Flared Tempers

Chapter Five

Naomi was surprised that she felt a little irritated by the strange lady’s rude interruption.

Okay! Fine! She was very irritated which was weird because in normal circumstances, she was supposed to be thankful.

She was usually in control of her temper. A lot of people would describe her as cool, calm and collected.

Plus she knew that as someone in the medical profession, it was ideal to have a lid on her temper; especially since it was likely that her patients would focus on her mood because they couldn’t speak or understand English.

She was easygoing and could be sweet as long as no one pushed her buttons; which wasn’t an easy thing to do. There wasn’t a lot that would make her get that angry.

But this man! This annoying man!

They had met only twice and each time, he had managed to push her buttons like a child with a new video game.

He was making her consider taking anger management classes. Maybe she was becoming less tolerant with age or maybe it was solely a problem with this handsome douchebag.

Was she incapable of having a civilized conversation with him?

After exchanging a few words, she would feel her cheeks grow hot with anger. She couldn’t remember the last time her interactions with a stranger had been this explosive.

What had the rude lady called him? Day? What kind of weird name was that?

Anyway, in less than twenty four hours this Day guy had managed to make Naomi lose her temper more times than she had done in the past two months.

At times like this when she got all heated up, it was best to remove herself from the situation and take a minute to calm down.

This was why she was supposed to be thankful for the interruption.

There was no reason to wait for Day’s reply when from his track record; there was a high probability that whatever he said was just going to make matters worse.

The interruption had provided Naomi with the perfect opportunity to walk away from all this toxicity.

But she was irritated that this lady; who she happened to be taller than (Yay! A win was a win, no matter how petty she was being!) had butted into their conversation.

It was hard for Naomi not to notice how the mystery lady had wrapped herself around Day’s arm like a snake.

She also noticed that Miss Cobra was pretty with a nice shape.

She couldn’t help but think about how Miss Cobra and Mr. Day would make a good looking couple.

She assumed that they weren’t because Day wasn’t looking at the interrupter with adoration or love; it was an expression akin to annoyance.

Day’s eyes turned to her and they were filled with silent hope; like he was pleading for her help.

Wait!

What had he said a few moments ago? There was no way the new member he was busy training was her.

No way in hell!

Naomi figured that if the douchebag wanted to avoid this lady then it seemed like justice to leave him with her.

It wasn’t like she was being petty. Whatever was going on between them was none of her business so there was no reason to be a part of his lie.

Day watched in dismay as the vet’s lips lifted with an evil smirk. He caught the glint of mischief in her eye.

She was definitely going to throw him under the bus!

The easiest thing to do was be firm with Tania and tell her to leave him the hell alone. Their relationship only existed within the gym and she knew that he generally didn’t offer training services; that was why he had hired so many fitness trainers!

Everyone knew that he loved working out alone. Whenever he wanted to work out, he usually reserved the VIP section of the gym for a couple of hours.

He told people that asked that it helped him concentrate more and gave him a chance to clear his head. It was part of the truth but not the important part.

Daykan couldn’t let humans see how much weights he was lifting or how his work outs were so intense that they defied human abilities.

So whenever, Tania was asking for all those one on one trainings, they both knew she wanted something more; and he wasn’t interested!

But a part of him felt guilty for using her to release some pent-up sexual tension. It didn’t matter if she had agreed to it being a one night stand.

He should have found someone else instead of a member of his gym and now he was paying the price for that crucial mistake. But in his defense, he had done it for the greater good.

Werewolves were sexual creatures and adult werewolves needed to regularly release that tension.

If they didn’t, their already short fuses grew shorter and the slightest annoyance could make them change into their werewolf form. He didn’t want to accidentally change and hurt someone or unintentionally reveal his secret.

Daykan was in his sexual prime and it was a shame that he hadn’t found a mate yet. But next time he needed to scratch that itch, he was definitely finding someone else.

He wasn’t sure why he instantly thought about the vet. Maybe it was because she was right in front of him.

Duhhhhh.

His eyes met with hers and she opened her mouth. It looked like she wasn’t going to flow with his lie.

Daykan quickly opened his mouth to stop her but Tania beat them both to it.

“Ugh! Day what are you talking about? I can tell just from looking at her that she barely works out.” Tania was an athlete and knew what she was talking about.

“You rarely even train with experienced gym users so why would you be interested in someone whose muscles look like boiled noodles?” Tania threw a derogatory grin in Naomi’s direction before continuing.

“Listen Sweetheart, I’m doing you a favor. Day is a powerhouse and you’ll simply kill his vibe.” Tania shifted her gaze back to Daykan. “There’s no way you will enjoy training someone like her.

Can’t someone else train her? Maybe Dave? You’re always busy so it’s not easy to have you all to myself.

Come on, let’s work up a sweat.” She whined and pushed her breasts against the arm she was wrapped around.

This was definitely the time to just walk away.

Naomi wasn’t even interested in replying Miss Cobra’s comments. They didn’t make any difference to her and it was no skin off her back to ignore the snide remarks.

It wasn’t like the lady had lied or anything. She had only been spitting facts. At least her noodle muscles were strong enough to be able to carry a scalpel and perform surgery.

If only she could be this indifferent when it came to Day, it would be great for her blood pressure.

Naomi wasn’t even in the mood to exercise anymore. She would give it another shot when all this drama wasn’t in the picture.

She about to take her leave when the look in Daykan’s eyes stopped her short.

He looked pissed off.

Wait that was an understatement.

He looked like he was boiling from within. Naomi unconsciously took a careful step back; like she would have done if she had come face to face with a mountain lion.

She didn’t want to turn around because it felt like she would be baring her back to a dangerous animal.

Daykan slowly detached Tania from his arm, used one hand to lift her off the ground by the collar of her shirt, stretched out his hand and dropped her a few inches away.

Tania wasn’t ready to be discarded that easily. “Dayyyy….”

“Enough!” Daykan snapped at Tania, silencing her protest. “I’ve had enough of you!”

Tania’s eyes widened with surprise because she had never heard Daykan sound that way and certainly not to her. She looked over at him and wasn’t aware of taking a step away from him.

The other patriots of the gym hadn’t noticed what was going on. He hadn’t raised his voice.

Daykan settled his gaze on Tania and she froze in fear. Sweat trickled down her back even though the air conditioners were switched on.

“Tania, what gives you the right to come into my gym, insult my client and tell me who I can or can’t train?” Daykan bit out quietly in a cold voice.

Tania opened her mouth but no sound came out. She would have preferred if he had raised his voice, she could deal with that.

But his quiet questions seemed so much deadlier.

His hands weren’t balled into fists like he was restraining himself from attacking her. However, something about him seemed off.

All her instincts were telling her that she was in a dangerous situation.

She wanted to get the heck away from him.

“I asked you a question. Don’t make me repeat myself.” Daykan was getting impatient with her silence.

“No…nothi...nothing gives me th..the ri..right. I’m sorry,” Tania squeaked out.

“Not to me. Apologize to her!” Daykan growled with a nod in Naomi’s direction.
