Pain and tears

"Zoe!" I called out desperately, chasing after her. Thankfully, I managed to catch up and took hold of her hand, urging her to stop.

"Zoe, please, just listen to me," I pleaded. She forcefully pulled her hand away, glaring at me with utter disdain.

"Do not dare to touch me," she groaned, tears streaming down her face. "I trusted you, Cassie! I thought you were my friend!" I yelled, feeling remorseful and nodding in acknowledgment.

"We can't talk here, Zoe. The maids might be watching. Let's go to your room," I whispered, scanning the area and noticing the passing maids.

As they realized I was aware of their stare, they hurriedly turned away and left. Zoe glanced at them but remained silent.

"Please, Zoe, let me explain," I implored, hoping to avoid any further attention.

Without a word, she started walking away, and I followed her until we reached her chamber. Once inside, she shut the door and stood in the center of the room, facing me.
