Chapter 5

"I'm not going. Can you tell Madame Frost? I think I'm going to have a fever," Sunday lied to Shaina.

"All right, no problem."

When Shaina left, Sunday pulled herself to the bed and pull her hair. "What am I doing..."

When she was satisfied, she drop herself on the bed. This is so wrong ... what she did was wrong. Why did she give in to that Matteo again! What's wrong with her. She can't believe this!

"Oh, this is..." She soaked her face in her pillow as she scolded herself in her mind.

Later someone rang the doorbell.

"W-Who's here at this time?" She stood up.

"Sunday?"

Sunday got stunned when she heard David's drunk voice. What is he doing here at this hour?

It took her seconds before she oblige herself to open the door. And then she saw David's drunk face.

"What are you doing here?" in a cold voice, she asks.

"I'm sorry," David's eyes are begging and full of regret but Sunday won't ever fall to it.

"it's okay, as I already expected it. I didn't give myself to you because I thought you understand. But that's okay. You may leave now," she didn't avert her stare as she said those words. David went speechless and remained quiet for the next seconds.

"If you're just going to say sorry, just leave." She was about to close the door when David suddenly hugged her.

"C-Come back to me, please." Sunday heard him subbed. "I l-love you, I love you..." David holds her like he never wants to let go.

Sunday placed her both arms and pushed him hard which made David shocked.

With sharp eyes, she looks him in the eyes. "I'm not playing around, David. You ruined our relationship and now you still want me? Hah? Am I kind of a thing to you ?!" She felt mad all of a sudden and couldn't help but raise her voice. "Leave."

"I-I'm s-sorry. Can you at least forgive me? I love you, okay? It's j-just--" Sunday cut him off.

"It's just what? Is it because I didn't surrender my body to you? So you looked for another woman to fuck? You just proved you don't love me and now you're going to say you love me? Are you making fun of me?!" Sunday immediately drag the door closed and lean against it. Her body is trembling as tears kiss down her cheeks.

"Sunday, babe?" calls David outside.

She knew David is crying but that won't fix them anymore. "Leave! And please don't ever come back here!" Sunday dropped herself to her bed and then covered herself with her blanket. Why does she feel this way, she's mad at him but still feeling guilty. Was it because she gave herself to that stranger and not to her boyfriend? She knew that was not right, and so as David. They're both wrong. They both did wrong!

"Ahh," She cried feeling so upset, to him and herself.

*-*-*-*

The next day Sunday woke up early. She went to the flower shop which she saw on ‘grab the job’ online the last night.

"Good morning." A beautiful smile from a beautiful lady welcomed her.

"Good morning. I'm the one--"

"Oh, you must be Sunday Morales."

Sunday smiled at the friendliness of the lady.

"Ako nga pala si Elizabeth." (By the way, I'm Elizabeth.)

Suddenly, amazement in Sunday's eyes become visible as she heard the lady talk in Filipino.

"Well, I happened to be in the Philippines back then. Oh, I'm sorry. Did I make you uncomfortable?" The lady even smiled as she arranged the flower on her table.

"Ah, no."  Sunday approached the Lady to give her, her resume.

"Oh, sit down." The lady handed her a magazine about flowers after looking at her resume in just a few seconds. "You can start tomorrow."

"R-Really?" Sunday can't hide her genuine smile.

The Lady nodded. "Ahuh."

"Oh, thank you. Thank you very much."

Sunday was overjoyed when she leave the flower shop. She didn't know why she feel this way, there were a lot of part-time jobs that she took and was accepted but never did she feel this kind of happiness. So strange.

.

.

After Sunday turned to the left, it was when Matteo entered the flower shop.

"Ma!" Matteo called his mother.

"Oh, you're here?"

"Well, I went to your place but you're not there so ..." he shrugged. "I came here." He quickly turned to his mother. "By the way, I heard, you hired a new chix?"

The Lady laughed and shook her head.  "You naughty boy, she's not the kind of chix you think."

Matteo looked around as if looking for the chix he is saying. "By the way, where is she?"

"Stop what's on your mind Matteo," the lady slightly scolded Matteo, but Matteo just laugh.

"Oh, she left it here."

.

.

Sunday quickly hid when she saw Matteo coming out of the flower shop. She forgot the magazine that Mrs. Harrison gave her.

But when she turned around again, her head hit the wall-- ah no.

She slowly looked up and saw Matteo's playful smile... again.

"Are you stalking me? Huh?"

Sunday raises an eyebrow after seconds of silence. "In your dreams," and then she moves to turn away.

"Then what are you doing here?"

Here he is again.

Sunday looked at the man again. "All I know is I don't have to tell you what I'm doing."

"Well, but for me, you have to tell me."

With disbelief, she look at him in the eyes but suddenly look away when she saw his hazel brown eyes. And just a second, memory from that night played like a movie in her mind, and it's very clear.

"Really? Then you're c-crazy," she said and quickly turned away.

Matteo chuckle while eyeing the woman walking at her speed. "She's really is something." Matteo thought all girls are the same but this woman... is too way  hard to get.

.

.

When Sunday arrived at the apartment, she saw a bouquet placed on the floor in front of their apartment's door. She picked it up and read the little piece of note.

- 'I'm sorry, can we meet?' - David

She heaved a sigh as she walk inside, she dropped the flower on Shaina's mini table.

David's asking to meet her? What for?

"Oh, flowers for me?" laughing, Shaina asked as soon as she saw the flower placed on her table after coming out of the bathroom.

Sunday didn't urge to answer the question. "I got a new job."

"Oh? So you're going to quit at the bar?"

"No. Dad called earlier. Mom still needs to stay in the hospital and the bills are increasing."

Shaina nodded. "How is your mother?"

"She still has to stay in the hospital until she can go home."

.

.

Shaina and Sunday go together to the bar that evening.

"Are you okay, Sun?" Shaina asked while buttoning her blouse.

Feeling her neck, Sunday turned to Shaina. "I'm good, just tired."

"I know you, it will get worse later. You should go back, I'll just tell madame Frost that you are sick."

Sunday disapprovingly shooked her head. "I can't. I can't lose the money I could earn tonight."

"I understand but you need to take care of yourself, Sun."

"I'm fine."

Shaina just can't do anything with Sunday stubbornness. And literally, no one can stop her, even her.

Sunday felt weak all night. And as time goes by, she can feel her headache worsen. She also felt her body heat burning up.

Later Shaina approached her. "Rest first. I'll take care of this one." Shaina took the tray she was holding and made her sit on one of the counter chairs. Sunday didn't complain for the first time.

By the time they got home, Sunday immediately placed her body in her bed.

"That is what you get for being hardheaded." Shaina barked like a mother while handing her the medicine. "Drink this."

"Tomorrow, don't go to the shop. I'll take care of it, I can go and tell your new boss, just tell me the address."

Sunday complained. "I can't. I can't be absent on my first day."

"I don't know what to do to you Sunday. If your family knows what you're doing, they will scold you to death," Shaina said. Sunday is so stubborn. Yes, and she understands that Sunday needs money but she also needs to take care of herself.

"Just don't. You're not going, you understand?"

Sunday moans as an answer as she dozes off to sleep.
