Chapter 11: Mind your Own business

I keep taking a deep breaths while walking until I reach my room. I sat on the edge of the bedroom, trying to endure the pain. How can I even go to the clinic tomorrow? I stared at the paper and the list of chores. I creased my forehead and pursed my lips. The pain keeps striking my neck. As I looked at it, the black veins were visible. Something strange that I could not understand. I had never had this discomfort before, but after my 18th birthday, it started aching for no apparent reason. I lay down on the bed and stared at the ceiling. Distraction.

“That’s what I need!” I mumbled. I looked outside and saw the darkness engulfing the backyard. I gulped down and got an idea—I could finish it if I started now. My heart keeps pounding loud as I sneak out. I came closer to the main door when I heard someone opening the door upstairs. I hide on the couch and duck my head.

“Come out! I can see your shirt, Eliana.” Caleb shouted with irritation. I slowly got up and made a peace sign to him,
