Chapter 48

Cassius was up to something. For the past week, he went out frequently without telling anyone and he had dark circles around his eyes the few times I saw him. As his supposed Luna, his sudden unannounced outings meant I had to fill in for him.

“The Alpha is not here today?” Elder Mark asked.

I was now sitting at the head of a meeting that Cassius had called but did not attend as he was out today again. Sylvia informed me when the Elders gathered with no head so I happily waltzed in.

“I apologize but the Alpha had more important things to attend to.”

“More important things?” One of them growled. “I spent three hours on the road just to get here. What could be more important than meeting his elders?”

“It’s okay,” Elder Mark rushed to appease. “Alpha Cassius has elevated Blood Crescent beyond my wildest dreams. He must be working a lot to get us to even greater heights.”

Elder Mark was easily bought and thus not very influential so I paid him no mind. These men were the pillar
