Chapter Sixty-Five

It was a long, lonely ride back to land.

Of course, while I did feel lonely, I wasn’t alone. I was flanked on either side by two big men, silently sitting on either side of me. Under normal circumstances, I might try to strike up a conversation. However, the way they stared straight ahead, not checking me out even once, told me that it would be a bad idea.

So I stared at my own hands, bound in handcuffs, and wondered what would happen to me. Other than the first guy who had searched me, nobody had even spoken to me yet.

It was a short ride back to shore, so I didn’t have too much time to think about my fate. When the boat stopped, I was helped out by the two guards next to me.

They handed me over to two officers from the New York Police Department. These two did take the time to check me out, but I didn’t feel any safer with them. I did see the Coast Guard guys hand them my purse. I turned red, thinking about the lingerie still inside.
