Chapter 12

Ronika

I stared at Quinlan's father without blinking, every single word he had just uttered sinking in more slowly than I would have liked. Then I blinked after internalising the complete sentence. It sounded too surreal to be true, almost as if I had imagined it. Before my eyes, everything seized to exist for a while, while my mind went completely blank. I couldn't move; it was like I was fixed on the floor, seeing nothing but swirls of darkness.

It took time for my systems to reboot and go back to reality, and when they did, I let out a loud laugh that had the two men furrowing their eyebrows. They acted as if they were expecting a different type of reaction.

"Breeder," I spoke in between laughs, clutching my abdomen when my insides began to hurt.

"Me." I poked my chest with my index finger.

"Ronika Lin Zeke, become his breeder." I addressed the older man while pointing at Quinlan, the laughter dying out.

"You must be a mad man," I spat, sending an icy glare at him. He growled lowly
