"I don't need to impose my King, but shouldn't your bride be a part of our meetings?" A feminine voice asked.

Alistair looked over at the woman, who spoke. She was wearing too much make-up, and he vaguely remembered her talking to October.

"She doesn't fully understand our world. In fact, she is in the library right now reading about our history." Alistair told her.

The lady cocked her head to the side. "Right, but I must ask. Is she smart enough to comprehend any she reads? And why leave a human unattended? What if something should happen to her?"

Alistair narrowed his eyes at her. “What are you employing, Gertrude?"

Gertrude shrugged at him. "I don't know. She is human."

Alistair looked at her. “Well, nothing will ever happen to her. She is under my protection and twenty-four-hour watch."

Gertrude gave him a smile. "That's what you said the last time. You bride, what was her name again?"

Alistair hissed and got to his feet. “Don't even go there! What happened was an accident."
