"Chloe?"

The question echoed until I stirred from my restless sleep. Once again in the forest, seeking answers without knowing what I pursued.

Riddles in the dark.

Rhea nudged me awake.

"Hey. You’re having a rough few days, aren’t you?”

I sighed. “Tell me about it.”

Yawning, my attention fixed on the concerned face before me. Aaron regarded me as if I were a fragile trinket.

"What is it?" I asked him. “And can I have a coffee first?”

He smiled. Moments later, I had a cup of steaming, frothy cappuccino. Much better.

“I'm leaving the castle grounds for a while. I don't know when I'll be back. Reports of witches in the southern bend of the White Mountain.”

My heart sank. If witches were near our territory, Wendell wasn't far away.

“You’re not going alone.” I took a sip of coffee, meeting his gaze.

He gave a characteristic frown. “I thought you would resist. It’s not safe, Chloe.”
