"So where should we take him then?" Johndale asks. "Even if my place would be the safest place on earth for him, I can't bring him there. Alpha Draku and the rest of the werewolf guardians visited me there once in a while." "My dad, who is the Sheriff of the town is going to kill us if I bring him to our house." Jackson insisted on his side. "Anywhere," I spoke out. "Someone's abandoned house. Beneath the ground. Anywhere, as long as it does not involve families or pack members." After a few minutes of debating, the van ended up in heart of a dense forest in the middle of nowhere. Jackson and I hop out of the van and studied the ambiance outside. Good thing Jackson always brings everything we could use if things like this happen to us; food, water, flashlights, and handcuffs. Johndale, on the other hand, serves as our eyes and ears at the werewolf hunter. I had to make sure no one could discover the hunter's whereabouts before we could think of a better plan
Then I drop both of them at the nearest bus station before I went straight to the pack village with the werewolf hunter inside the trunk. But I check and know he was still breathing. The thudding sounds that I kept hearing prove it. "To what I owe this surprise visit, huh, Melvin?" asks Alpha Draku the second we settled in the living area of his house. As usual, he was surrounded by a bunch of werewolf guardians including Julian and Jelian. They weren't supposed to be in my sight when I got into the village but the news always travels at the speed of light. As soon as they heard me visiting the alpha, Julian and Jelian immediately appeared in my sight, feeling intrigued that after how many months of being unable to fulfill my duty as a werewolf guardian, I finally showed up. "I need your help, Alpha Draku," I said straightforwardly. My time at the moment is as precious as gold when Conrad alloted me until tomorrow night before they kill Karen. "You need my help
Jackson and I gulped in unison as we slowly put the guns in our hands back to the table. "Mr. and Mrs. Stanford," it was quite obvious that my voice was stuttering. "What are you two doing here?" As far as I can evaluate the situation, Mr. and Mrs. Stanford seemed to be unaware that their daughter was kidnapped yesterday. They were carrying a basket of chocolate and shopping bags. "Aren't we supposed to be the one asking you that, huh, Mr. Parker?" similar to Mrs. Stanford, her husband's facial expression was also blazing in flames. "And are you all unaware that carrying unregistered and illegal weapons are punishable by the law?" Everyone, including Jackson, immediately cleaned up the surface of the table and put all the weapons back into the travel bags. Their heartbeats were all in a race, and it also caused my brain to freeze. "And besides, this unit belongs to my daughter. We did not even ask a penny from any of your wallets to pay for this place." M
Alpha Draku and his werewolf guardians were about to strike but I yelled at them right after I switched off my wireless headset. "Conrad... Draku... S T O P!?! This is a trap." "What?" Alpha Draku growled, he glued his feet on the ground and ordered his werewolf guardians to stay vigilant, especially when the hunters also ceased fire. "This is what Conrad wants to happen, Alpha Conrad," I confessed while carrying Karen's unconscious body. Jackson was also standing behind me and holding the back of my shirt, every fiber of his muscle was terribly trembling. If something bad happens to Jackson, it will not just be Karen's family who is going to chase and kill me but the Sheriff and his entire police department as well. The worst part is that my wolf cannot move freely when I am already exerting much of my force as my hands were occupied by Karen's body. I might not be able to protect him from those arrows. God damn it. "You told me that the pack is not going
Exhausted and covered in blood, the surviving police officers breathed a sigh of relief as they realized they had somehow survived the battle. But the victory was hollow, as they knew none of their comrades would be coming home. An air of sadness and loss hung over the forest as they pulled out their radios to call in the cleanup crew. And as they hastily departed the scene, their lives forever changed, they could hear the mournful howls of a distant pack of wolves, perhaps already preparing for their next hunt. Five minutes later, I went back to the building and hop into the car, thinking about what to do next. "What happened?" Jackson asked me. "Forty-one police officers. Twenty-three werewolves. And eighteen hunters." I said, maintaining my eye level below the rearview mirror. "Those were the number of lives lost because of this exchange." "What?" Jackson remained his mouth wide open. I reached out to the steering wheel and started the engine of the car. We took off, but I d
After a few minutes of waiting, Jackson messaged me, giving us the best routes with less crowded heading to Karen's condominium unit. Jackson advised us to walk on foot instead of using the car. It is the only way he could think of not to get caught or so we could move freely. We could run for our lives when things go south. "Do you still have the spray?" Karen asked. I nodded, and we both applied the spray heavily. It wasn't a foolproof plan, but it was all they could do. "Where did you get this spray anyway?" I asked her back. "Jackson brought them I guess?" Karen uttered, she was curious and confused. "I found them in the travel bag in the car along with some deadly weapons, handcuffs, chains, and bombs. Aren't those yours?" "Even bombs?" I furrowed. "Why didn't you tell me earlier?" "Well, you did not ask me or Jackson in the first place." she defensively said back. "Besides, the travel bag was seated next to you in the driver's seat, remember?" My
The two of us frantically went to work, with me giving Karen a boost up to the duct. Karen clambered in, wriggling through the air duct, with me waiting below. Karen pushed hard, and the rusted vent cover gave way, falling to the floor below. I quickly leaped up, pulling myself through the hole and landing on the other side. Then relieved ourselves with the anti-werewolf spray, seeing an end in sight. A bright light shone down as we finally reached the exit, having gone through what seemed like maze-like ducts. As the two of us took our first steps out of the building, our heads whipped around, scanning the empty street for any signs of the police. "Let's go home," I said, looking over at Karen. "Are you we can make it there?" Karen whispered, she hesitated. "Just stay behind me, okay?" I grab her hand and hold her tightly without any signs of malice. Tight enough that I have no plan to let her go no matter what. We walked away, avoiding eye contact with a
Before anyone from the cops could see me wandering the streets, I hop into Karen's car and took off heading to the pack's village. My wolf did not find it hard to reach the village when the entire road was completely empty. All my eyes could see were empty bottles of water, old newspapers, stranded cars, and dried leaves rustling on the road. 'Welcome back, Melvin." says Jelian with an ear-to-ear smile on her face, but her twin brother, Julian, displayed the other way around. He still blamed me for everything that happened to the world. I can't blame him for that when he deserved to look at me that way. Everything turned upside down because of me. I heard that all the werewolf guardians were gathered in the village instead of their respective assigned places. All of them become jobless because of the tension between us and the cops. Alpha Draku cannot risk his werewolf guardians spreading them throughout the country without protection from the cops and other govern
