6. it is time

'Oh, lord'

I exclaimed inwardly. This guy looks way too handsome for my system to contain.

I looked away, staring at the space as I gulped at nothing while hugging tightly onto the folder I was carrying.

"I'm not a bit affected by them anymore; it's already in the past," I muttered, but he just chuckled in return.

"We can lie to others, but never to ourselves," he replied, and then took a large stride to the biggest chair in the living room.

He took his seat, and a maid walked up to him with a glass of red wine.

Darls Collymore, Accepted the glass and then twirled it with his gaze, never leaving my body, which made me nervous.

"Your room..." he began but paused as if something suddenly struck him.

"Where do you want to live?" Darls asked out of the blue, and I was stunned.

Wasn't this his mansion? Why was he asking for my opinion? What if I say his bedroom?

Hahaha, is he going to let me lodge there?

My thoughts were crazy, and I know. But I can't help what's running through my mind.

Darls Collymore suddenly let out a soft but husky chortle.

"My room is more than enough," he muttered, and my face burned in embarrassment.

I wanted to find a hole to bury my head in shame. Of all the things I thought, I just had to say that part out loud.

What could be more humiliating?

"You don't have to mind whatever I said; just ignore it," I requested.

Darls stared at me intently before looking away.

"Your room is on the second floor. The entire space is free to use, so feel free to do as you, please. This is also your home."

I smiled, nodded, and bowed, and he took a sip from the glass of wine. He motioned a maid with his hand, and three others joined the suite, making them four.

"These four will be at your service twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

Inform them if you need anything. In the meantime, they'll be assisting you to park your things."

I turned to the four lined-up maids, and they immediately went on their knees, almost scaring my poor heart.

"Madamé, I'm Karin Baxter, and I pledge my loyalty to you. I'll serve you wholeheartedly. I'll put your life before mine and lay my life down for yours in times of danger.

You are my master; your happiness, sadness, hunger, safety, and everything related to you will be my top priority from this moment on.

I hope Madamé will not let me out when it comes to matters regarding you. Madame, please accept me as your own."

"Madamé, I'm Jasmine Jaxon...."

"Madamé, I'm Titania Nickolas..."

"Madamé, I'm Eva Smith..."

Their pledges got on my nerves. I felt like screaming, but I kept holding back my voice.

What benefit will it have if I scare them off? I don't just understand what kind of loyal pledge this is.

Wasn't it just hiring a maid or worker? Why do they need to lay down their lives as proof of their honesty and loyalty?

This never happened, even at Huxley's mansion.

I turned to Darls for help out of this predicament, but he just looked away as he donned the last drop of wine in the glass and then stood up.

"Accept their loyalties," he ordered and then strutted in the direction of the stairs.

He halted, looking behind, and said, "Somethings just have to be the way they are. You never know what might happen next."

He said nothing more and left wordlessly.

I was speechless, but he was right. One can never tell what might happen to him next. just like my parents, Mike, and my marriage.

I straightened my expression as I turned to them and said, "I accept your pledges."

Karin, Jasmine, Titania, and Eva all stood up and bowed. "This way, Madamé," Eva said, pointing in a certain direction.

I turned in that direction to realize there was an elevator installed.

'What the hell? If there was an elevator, then what was the point of him taking the stairs? This guy is truly unpredictable.' I thought.

"Let's go," I mumbled, and they immediately led the way.

****

I gaped at my reflection in the mirror, looking utterly stunned.

I couldn't recognize myself, as I couldn't even remember the last time I was dressed and made up beautifully.

The lady in the mirror had her dark hair with shades of red all parked into a retro bun with two loose twisted strands on each side of her hair.

Her lips were painted red, looking as hot as fire, and her brows were drawn in curves.

The foundation used for the makeover matches her bronze skin color perfectly in a way that one can't even find any flaws.

She had a pair of white pearl earrings stuck to her ears, and a necklace made with pearls was hanging on her neck.

She was wearing a long, lavender-colored dress that hugged her curves, revealing her sexy figure.

The gown had a slit from her knees below, and her smooth and spotless jade-like skin was exposed to their sinful eyes.

She was wearing six-centimeter silver sandal heels and holding a silver purse that seemed to be made by the same designer.

I can't believe this person staring and smiling directly at me was me.

'Why can't I remember ever being so beautiful and elegant?' I thought and then shrugged at my introspection.

It was only normal, as I have been living under someone else's shadow. I wasn't allowed to live on my terms.

But now, I can. Although with a condition. but I don't mind it.

Why would I mind something that was going to benefit me? I wasn't going to reject such a once-in-a-lifetime offer, so I agreed without even thinking twice.

And when I thought through it later, I saw no reason not to accept. I'm the one benefiting from the deal.

He has nothing to gain. Well, I can't also say that because none but Darls can predict himself.

might think he is achieving nothing, but he might be the one gaining more than myself.

I already know how twisted the mindset of a businessman is, and Darls Collymore, the devil of the business world, has the most twisted of all minds. but I still don't care.

"Madamé, it is time," Eva reminded me, and I jolted out of my thoughts. I turned around and ordered

 "Let's go"
