Adaira stirred against me, and I immediately woke up just in case she needed something. I nearly laughed as she wondered if she was dead and why everywhere was so dark.

“It’s so dark because your eyes are closed. Open your eyes, mate.” I said with a chuckle.

She opened her eyes but she still wasn’t sure if she was alive.

“I assure you, mate, you’re very much alive. I told you that not even death itself could steal you from me, you’re mine.” I said to her.

She tried to speak but her throat was too dry, so I got water for her to drink. After a few seconds, she spoke.

“Death wasn’t trying to steal me, I was calling it. You shouldn’t have saved me.”

“I assumed you were just trying to be stubborn and not eat in order to force my hand and have your way, and what happened was just a mistake. I noticed some pieces of food missing from the trays I brought to you and thought you were secretly feeding yourself, hoping I wouldn’t notice.”
