Anna was slowly overwhelmed with loneliness after returning to Kodiak's house after a few days. According to Mrs. Hoyles, they thought that she would be safer by her mate's side where she could easily be protected by her mate, but she hadn't seen Kodiak since that night she rejected him.

Guilt gnawed her insides every time she thought about it because she could just imagine how devastated he was, being rejected twice despite his efforts. Her primal instincts always kicked in whenever she wanted to talk to him about it, so she simply ran away when she sensed that he was around in the house.

After a while, she noticed that he stopped coming back home, and that left a bittersweet feeling in her heart. Maybe it was an aftereffect of the mating heat she had experienced with him, but she and her wolf started yearning for their mate badly after his absence. It was starting to drive her crazy.
