KAIN’S POV:I’m finally going crazy.Even now that she’s gone, that Ivan’s taken her away, the look on her face, the hate in her gaze find their way into my head every time I close my eyes. That fucking bitch doesn’t even know what she’s saying, she doesn’t understand the true meaning behind my cause. How dare she act like she knows anything?I groan, pacing back and forth, running my hand through my hair. What’s so special about the blasted little boy anyway, that she would look at me like that?My chest hurts suddenly, a light annoying sting that bothers me nonetheless and she’s the cause of it. Getting on my nerves and riling me up at every single chance she gets.I should kill her.No, I should have killed her then; snapped her twig-like neck and be done with everything about her and yet…the muscles in my hand fell weak, and for the first time, I couldn’t take a life as easily as I always have.I really have gone insane.I need an outlet for my rage before it explodes.“Who’s th
LILITH’S POV:It’s been an entire week since the massacre; everyone has played it off as though it all never happened. It might be some sort of routine or normalcy to clean up several corpses as though it’s nothing, but I haven’t gotten the scene out of my mind.Flashes of that night haunt me till now; the pile of bodies, Warren’s lifeless body, and Kain soaked in blood, towering over me and choking me with his bare hands.Every time I close my eyes, a glimpse of the image flashes.I pass the hall. It had all transpired for the tenth time this week. It’s become a routine for me.The quiet hall feels as though I had imagined everything myself and perhaps, Warren is still alive and jumping around in his room till this day — but I dare not deceive myself. It had all happened; he killed him.“Lilith?”I scream, jumping from the sudden intrusion in my thoughts before turning round to see Ariel.Sweet cute Ariel with her rounded doe-like eyes brimming with curiosity.“What are you doing?” S
LILITH’S POV:“Calm down, Lili.” He coos, patting at my shoulder gently to calm my racing heart.I want to be calm but images of Warren flashes in my mind again and terrify me even more. The thought of losing my brother or him falling sick scares me the most.“He’s fine. I took care of him, got him the treatment he needs, though a bit expensive, but I did it for you guys. You've been under my care since your parent’s death, so it’s the least I could do.” He explains with a warm smile that puts my heart at ease.“Thank you, thank you so much.” I wipe away the bit of tears that had welded up in my eyes during the panic.“It’s all possible due to pack funds, Lili. Without everyone’s help, it wouldn’t have been possible and that’s why you need to try harder and give back to them in service.”I remain silent now, feeling discomfort mixed in with my relief now. The thought of owing them such a favor doesn’t sit well with me.“I’ll pay back the money.”“It’s not about the money. The pack has
LILITH’S POV:Finally escaping Yvonne feels like a breath of fresh air.I round a corner and walk further by a bit, stopping at the door of my room and push the doors open, wanting to just fall face flat and sleep the rest of this already tedious day.Unfortunately, my bed space isn’t as free as I had left it.Ariel sits up right as though she’s been expecting me with a small smile on her lips and cookies on a tray next to her.“You came just in time.” She says, patting at her side expectantly. The whole vibe feels very weird but the sight of warm cookies bribe me instantly and I give in.“What flavor?” “Butterscotch.”I take a piece, nibbling on it and feel all the stress in my body melt away in seconds.“Bribe accepted. What do you need?”She turns to me suddenly, gripping both my hands in hers while staring intently into my eyes.“I have a confession.”“Okay…this is totally not creepy.” I say sarcastically.“I feel embarrassed saying it.”“Not much surprises me at this point.” An
LILITH’S POV:Ivan stops right outside his office and I walk past him, pushing into the room. He’s deeply engrossed in work, looking over a few files as always. Only this time, he seems like he has more than the usual mountain of documents waiting for him to be assessed. A few piles sits on the floor beside his desk due to the lack of space on the table. It probably explains why he’s been so scarce these past few days.“Alpha Kain, you called for me.” I announce my arrival from the door, putting enough distance between myself and his desk. For reasons not fully understood, it still feels so awkward around him.He looks up at the desk right at me without saying a thing for a while. I bow my head to avoid his gaze.“You’re acting more respectable than your usual disobedient self.” He comments, rising from his desk.I take offence in his words instantly but maintain composure.“I have to show my respects while in your presence, right?”“I don’t remember you ever bothering to show respec
LILITH’S POV:The day I’ve been dreading finally approached, and I’m waiting just at the entrance for Yvonne to be finally done getting ready so we can leave. The main objective today is to pay a visit to a few of the impoverished parts of the pack, the areas where most of the Xenos reside and deliver food provisions and take notes down on what they need.I’d never thought Kain would be interested in what actually goes on, but if he really wanted to fix anything he should focus on the stigma against outsiders that runs vividly in his pack.We were meant to have left two hours ago but because of Yvonne and her hour-long preparation, we have not. There’s no surprise there.Though my job here is to essentially stop Yvonne from doing something drastic or stupid, it seems as though I have to tell her what to do at every turn.Thirty minutes more and she finally emerges from the door, dressed in a lavish sequin dress that reflects the sun's rays a bit too much and heels. It's an outfit too
KAIN’S POVMy eyes absent-mindedly fall onto the wide windows that let a bit of the setting sunlight spill into the room again, and I look past it into the garden view while I tap my feet almost impatiently.Since the morning came, I’ve been unable to focus on simple tasks in front of me while my mind wanders aimlessly. From the moment she left with the rest of her group, my mind has only wondered what she would be up to every moment.I had given this exact punishment for the sole purpose of annoying her, getting a rise out of her, so she would be frustrated as always and barge into my room, screaming profanities. It’s crazy, but the sight of her losing her usual calm and calculated composure fills me with a kind of entertainment. Anything besides the gloomy attitude she’s put on since that night fills me with a sense of exhilaration.Once again, my heart strings are tugged, recalling that memory — the sight of her disgusted and disappointed gaze chills me.I shouldn’t care what anyo
LILITH’S POV:There’s no guessing it, it definitely has to be Yvonne’s plan to get rid of me by tossing me into a desolate and abandoned well.Unluckily for her, she needs to do more than this to achieve that. Before I can think, I need to get rid of the throbbing in my shoulder. From the feel of it, the bone must have shifted from its socket during the fall, the skin around is equally bruised and battered.I wince while trying to sit up with one arm and then bite on my lower lip, counting to ten backwards.Once I reach one, I push back at my shoulder with enough force to pop the bone back into its usual spot.“Aaargh!!” I scream from the pain that wrecks through my entire body from the shoulder. It dissipates in seconds, leaving an only slightly throbbing shoulder with a joint that is too weak to be used for now.I fall on my back, gasping for air and taking a break from the pain.I hate this so much; I hate that I have to deal with people like Kain and Yvonne just to have a livelih
