The beggining

"We are civilized people," Robert thought as he saw Cedric's mother arrive. He remembered her just as she was, despite the years they hadn't seen each other, the years they avoided seeing each other because Robert represented something she despised, a reason for Mr. Graham to divorce her and marry Robert's mother.

Alice felt Robert tense up, and only then did she realize why Noelia had such a wide smile. She was winning this silent battle. Robert had told her that Cedric's mother had poisoned his mind against him when they were children, which drove them further apart, especially since Cedric hurt Robert. But now, it seemed, the older brother wanted to get along with Robert. The schemes were Noelia's, to annoy, not Cedric's.
