Chapter 25: Power

How did I escape? I recall the blinding lights and that dazzling silver moon, but I don't think any of it was me. The look in Jai-Blynn's eyes tell me it's better to keep my mouth shut until I figure out what exactly happened to me back there. If the beta's wondering about it, Zeke must be, too; but why did he say nothing about it earlier? He just came intending to set me free, which surprised me.

"I don't know." I whisper after a while of silence.

He frowns harder at me, but he doesn't continue hounding me with that question. Jai-Blynn studies me for another minute. I can't tell what's going through his mind or where his thoughts are. I just know he suspects me and my supposed abilities.

"It is too late to change my mind, Mare." He mutters while clenching his fists and quickly turns away, walking out of my cell with long strides.

I don't have the luxury of responding. He disappears before I can even get the words out. Maybe I did wrong, dragging Jai-Blynn into all of this with
