Chapter 26: The Witches

ZEKE:

My feet can't carry me fast enough. I storm through the halls with my staff in one hand. Nothing dares block my path to the pack doctor's lair. I can't believe she was right under him and he let this happen. Anger and fear mix inside me and the result is something I dislike.

Taz bows to me but refuses to meet my gaze. I'm scowling at him because he knows he has messed up big time.

"How bad is she?" I ask as he follows, walking behind me.

"I arrived a few minutes ago. It seems she's been like that for three days."

A pang strikes hard in my chest. I clench my jaw and move even faster. Marelyn is in danger. My child as well, and it's all my fault.

I climb down the long stairs and dive into the aisle between the cells. Drusila is already with her, and I avoid her gaze even as I approach. I know what she will say. This was all on me. If Marelyn hadn't been so stubborn, none of this would have happened.
