"Like how you gave up on mom?"

My father's mouth went agape, and even Desdemona and Venice, who usually had a lot to say, were surprised and weren't able to utter any words. 

I don't know how long it took for them to recover from the shock of my statement, but we stood in silence for what felt like an eternity.

In contrast to my father's reprimanding voice just moments ago, his voice suddenly became significantly softer—almost broken. 

"How can you say that, Rosalind?"

I chuckled emotionlessly. "What? Did I say something wrong? It's the truth! You talk big about my mate giving up on me when you yourself gave up on your mate—on mom, on ME!"
