Mathilda’s POV

The last customer just left and I slumped on one of the chairs in exhaustion.

The past three months had been the most stressful months in my life. One would think that owning a diner in the heart of the town would be amazing but it wasn’t. Not at all.

Of course we earned a good amount of money everyday but the negative effect it had on us was overwhelming.

Mum had fallen really sick and had been hospitalized for about two months. Dad followed suit leaving only me and my younger brother, Jason to manage the diner.

As for me, I hated the diner. Although it was a way for me to gain money for college, I still despised it mainly because of who we had gotten it from.

In order for me to stay away from her daughter, Mrs. Austin had gifted me and my parents with a diner and my father had promised her that he’d never let me see Emily again.

In other words, my friendship had been traded with an old little diner.
