Part Twenty-Nine

“Come on let’s go,” I said to Sierra as I picked my briefcase up and put the copies of the prosecution’s witness statements away.

“Where are we going? I thought court’s finished for the day,” she said.

“We’re going home,” I said to her.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” she said.

“We need to talk about everything at some point,” I said to her.

“Can you please just give me time until after the trial?” she asked me.

“If that’s what you want,” I said and walked away from her.

I looked at the strange car parked in front of my garage and my heart hammered in my chest as I caught his scent. Fucking Jett and his big mouth. The door opened as I stepped onto the porch and he engulfed me in a hug, wrapping his arms around me tightly.

“I had to come,” he said as he let go of me.

“You shouldn’t have,” I said to him as I pushed past him and walked into my house.

“Griff, don’t shut me out,” he said.

“Why don’t you hate me?” I asked him.

“I could never hate you,” he said.
