Caterina
The last time I came to Volkov Estate with Viktor, I learned so much about him and this family. Actually, if it weren’t for Viktor, I would never have found the journals or known how to defend myself.
Now we would lay him to rest, the person who grew to mean so much to me. As we drive down that hidden winding road, I look over at Kai. His expression was stern, and his mouth was thin; I’m not sure what this could indicate, but I know that he is struggling with everything.
Yes, I lost a good friend, but Kai lost his younger brother, someone he swore to protect. No one can know what he must be going through right now; Konstantin and the rest might, but not the way Kai must be feeling.
The guilt will eat him alive.
I reach over and place my hand over Kai’s, and he turns his head to look at me. Knowing my words wouldn’t reach him right now, I gave him a small smile - one he tried to return.

Caterina As I open my eyes, I am assaulted by a splitting headache and immediately let out a groan. The images are blurred but soon come into focus, and I realize that I am back at the penthouse. Did I fall asleep in the car? The last thing I remember is walking towards the car with Kai's hand in mine. I must have been entirely out of it and drained to have passed out like that. I grab my phone from the nightstand to look at the time: 6 am! I slept the entire evening away! Kai After watching how relaxed and calm she was during today's outing, I didn’t want to ruin her peace of mind. I couldn’t bring myself to tell her the truth behind her role in my life; why she was chosen to be my mate and why an enemy pack kidnapped and hid her. She won’t be able to handle all of it in the state that she is in now, so I will tell her everything after I’ve claimed her. Caterina Kai fell asleep almost immediately after coming to bed, but I am still wide awake. There was no way I would sleep after seeing what I did. The image of Kai’s lifeless eyes staring up at me is fresh in my mind. For now, I’m content with watching him sleep; he looks so peaceful. The permanent scowl on his face was eased out and replaced with a sleepy frown. His mouth was slightly open, and every now and then, it looked like he was chewing something in his dream. In short, the big bad Alpha was gone and replaced with this adorable man. I reach up and touch his face, spying on his wolf as he slept but noticing that although he might seem peaceful as he slept, inside, he was an anxious mess. His wolf paced up and down, then stopped before pacing again. Was Kai worried about something? Would he tell me what was on his mind? I sigh, then lean forward and place a kiss on his forehead.
