Chapter 86

The night patrol suddenly appeared, and when the thugs saw them, they immediately fled.

I ran to Bruce's side, but all I could see was blood on the ground.

"Call an ambulance!" one of the officers shouted.

"Bruce! Hold on, okay?" I cried.

Bruce reached up to stroke my face despite the pain and said, "It's okay... Luckily nothing happened to you."

"Bruce... I'm so sorry, Bruce..."

Ten minutes later, I heard the ambulance siren approaching us. I got in with Bruce and followed them to the hospital when it arrived.

After a quick examination, the doctor concluded that Bruce would permanently be disabled and paralyzed in his lower half. He would be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life.

"No...!" I cried. "It's all my fault! He was trying to save me..."

The doctor patted me on the shoulder and told me to be strong, as that was the only way I could care for the patient.
