Chapter 89

(Rylee's POV)

Lionel suddenly stopped talking, and I looked up at him only to see a fierce scowl on his face.

"Shh!"

He held a finger to his lips, gesturing for me to keep quiet, followed by a wary look around the area. The rain pounded frantically through the leaves and onto the ground, the rhythm of it sounding like drum beats.

Before I could react, a huge blur burst out from the bushes and lunged at us. It took a moment for my eyes to adjust, and I realized it was an unusually large wolf!

It's eyes were glittering green, shining fiercely with a maniacal glint. I could practically taste the bloodlust radiating from it!

But that was not the worst of it. When the brown wolf shot out, more than a dozen wolves followed behind, their sharp canines glinting and growls echoing in the air.

Lionel reacted instantly, slipping his arm around my waist. He lifted me and leaped upward to avoid the brown wolf's attack. I couldn't keep up with the sudden change in momentum and only heard the wind
