Chapter Seventy-three

Eleanor could not get over Drakken's words three days later, and his absence that followed. He had explained everything to her but she still had concerns. It was progress, still.

Eleanor had not heard him open up that much in the past months, except that one time he got drunk and told her about his engagement with the vampire princess.

Late in the evening, when Eleanor and Emma finished up work for the day, Eleanor sat in the hallway, reading from a magazine, but for some reason she could not concentrate.

She had been very pleased to discover everything Drakken did was for her safety. That was tangible proof that he cared for her, wasn't it? Why then did things have to be that complicated? Why had he brought her to the palace in the first place and disrupted her peaceful life?

Everything would have been the way it was if he had not given Ambrose money to kidnap her. So the blame came back to Drakken. And now his father would have her killed too if he found out about her. It just kept
