Hayley’s First

The governor was surprised by what he was hearing. Edna gasped on seeing the expression on his face and quickly got on her feet. She thought that he was disappointed that she was sitting side by side with the mayor and was embarrassed.

“You are welcome, sir.” She bowed slightly and made to leave but he called her back. She had her head bowed a little in shame. 

“It’s not what it seems, sir.” She began. “I can explain.

The governor approached Kara slowly, his facial expressions still very unpleasant while Edna seized the opportunity to return to her duty post.

“I think I better leave now. I’ll be downstairs if you need anything, ma’am.” She genuflected and left.

Kara managed to raise her head to look into the governor’s eyes to try to study his expressions. “You really scared her and that was not necessary. She was only following my orders.”

“I overheard
