44: A new family

Elaine’s POV

I woke up hours later, feeling disoriented and a bit confused. The events of the past few days were a blur, and I had to shake off the heaviness that clung to me.

I pushed myself up from the bed, noticing immediately how light I felt. It was as if a weight had been lifted from my body. I swung my legs over the side of the bed and stood up, feeling a surprising ease in my movements.
