Chapter 48: In the Dark of the Night

A mountain range is far less grand when you’re nestled inside of it. There’s no sweeping view from the bottom of the slopes. Just gravel and rock walls and tree trunks and dim shadows for light. Even the sky is barely visible between the woven branches overhead. Only when the sun is at its highest point do we even get a glimmer of its rays. And even then they feel filtered and weak, like the imposing mountains and towering trees have sapped all the warmth and life out of it.

It’s just like the packs. The Alphas take all the resources for themselves and their families and share out morsels that get smaller and smaller all the way to the bottom. Oh, the high and mighty packs claim to have no slaves, but what are the members not afforded an education beyond highschool, if they were lucky, supposed to do. They can’t leave
