Thirty

“Maya, tell me what really happened when I had called you,” Mike said sternly.

I avoided his gaze, as I looked towards the dense overgrowth. I could feel his gaze on me. I was at a loss on what to say. I felt his heavy steps as he approached, which only made me move away from him.

“Tell me, what happened,” he demanded fiercely.

I turned back towards him, he was two steps away from me. His eyes were soft as he looked at me. I felt like I could rely on him to help me out. I felt so odd thinking about it.

“Nothing is wrong. Like I said, it was just a bad timing. I was really emotional because of the movie,” I said stiffly.

He gave me a look. “I don’t believe you.”

I huffed as I looked away from him. He was making it difficult to keep this charade. I didn’t want him to know anything. I wished he would be in the dark about this whole thing, but it was quite evident that Mike didn’t know how to give up.

“Then…”

“Don’t say anything other than the truth, Maya. I want to know the truth.
