Alpha Joe's POV:

I was astounded. Did he really say it was because of a woman? Did I hear correctly? I needed to ask again to be sure.

"You said it's all because of a woman?" I quizzed.

"You heard right, Joe. This is all a woman's doing," he said through gritted teeth, clearly angry at this woman, whoever she was.

Curiosity got the better of me, and I asked, "What exactly happened, Nicholas?"

He took a deep breath and exhaled, "It all started a few weeks ago when a sorceress was apprehended in the midst of our pack." He looked at his father and continued, "It's an abiding law in our land that sorcerers are not welcome here, and if found, they will be burnt at the stake."

I nodded, urging him to continue. The law in their land wasn't news to me; my father had once told me about it. However, in our lands, sorcerers were welcomed as long as they didn't cause any trouble.
