Chapter Twenty - Nine

MAX’ POV

I was by her bed side when Alexis finally woke up. She said to me, “A penny for your thoughts?”

“You’re awake.” I helped her sit up but with my hand lingering on her arm.

“You look very worried about something. Oh right! We went to Mum’s” she paused and looked a bit confused. She said, “Wait what happened? The last thing I remember was eating dinner and now I’m here.”

I sighed. I had been debating on what to tell her. I knew it was the truth she deserved and I wanted to tell her badly but I found myself being cautious. How do I say to her that the woman who she thought the world of as her mother was only a deranged woman who’d adopted her from her real family and caused her not to function to her fullest capacity? How do I even tell about wolves? Or anything along those lines?
