With a flick of her eyelids, Scarlett's sleepy blur gave way to the soft light coming through the canopy overhead. Her head pounded, and she could feel the ground underneath her being chilly. Slowly, awareness seeped back into her consciousness, and she realized she was lying on something soft, almost like a cushion.

She shifted slightly, only to feel a gentle, steady rise and fall beneath her head.

"Don't move..." a manly voice hushed softly.

Her heart skipped a beat. She lifted her head and turned it to see a man sitting beside her, his eyes twinkling with amusement.

His short, well-groomed beard and unkempt golden hair accentuated his tough yet kind features. His smile was warm, reassuring, and a little bit teasing.

She froze on the spot. He was the most handsome man she had ever seen in her life. Adrian...!
