Salara’s POVEmbarassment floods my cheeks. I dip my head down, hiding my face in Derrick’s sweaty chest in an attempt to ignore what I have just done. To my surprise, Derrick lets out a light chuckle, the action vibrating through his chest as well as my head that is resting there. His hand gently grasp the sides of my face and forces me to look up at him. “It is only natural for you to want to mark me Salara.” His voice is reassuring, but I still find myself horrified by what I have just done. My gaze moves over to his right shoulder where blood can be seen drying as it moves down his chest. My fingers move up on their own and run across where my bite should be located, but instead I find smooth skin in its place. Derrick lets out a groan of pleasure when my fingers make contact with his sensitive skin. He pulls me in closer to his chest, and whispers in my ear, “You are going to be my undoing sweetheart.” His hot breath whispers across my skin, igniting my need for him yet again.
Salara’s POVThe palace is eerily quiet. I slip off my sandaled shoes and begin to make my way through the quiet halls with my bare feet. The palace is breathtaking to see, but I don’t take the time to admire the beauty around me as I follow some unknown path through the maze of hallways. It doesn’t take long for me to find my way into a large bedroom. The style of decor that surrounds me looks similar to what I have come to associate with ancient Egypt. As I make my way closer to the large, canopied, bed in the center of the room, I am shocked to see the sleeping form of the blurred man that I keep seeing. The peaceful aura that surrounds him causes a strange feeling of guilt to wash over me, moments before I watch myself plunge a large, golden, dagger right through the sleeping man’s heart. The man jumps up in surprise, letting out a choked cry that has blood spraying across my body and face. His eyes turn to me in confusion as his hand moves up to yank the dagger from his chest.
Derek’s POVWaking up with Salara wrapped tightly around my body was everything that I have been waiting for. Smelling her intoxicating honeysuckle scent first thing in the morning was enough to have me waking up in an amazing mood. That is until I walked into my office to find Charles and two of the Elders waiting for me.With a heavy sigh, I turn around to close and lock my office door. Of course it was too much to ask to have one day of bliss following the passionate night that I shared with my mate. I set my feet in motion towards my desk, half expecting it to still be a destroyed mess, but knowing that one of the Omegas would have been in to clean it while we slept. Everything is currently back exactly as it was before, aside from the new desk lamp that was brought in to replace the broken one. I must admit that the new lamp looks better than the old one. A wide grin spreads across my face as I drop myself into my desk chair. My hands move up to rest lightly on the desk, and my
Salara’s POVWaking up to the bed empty was more disappointing than I would like to admit. It has only been one night with Derrick and already I expect him to be there when I wake up. Something inside of me was yearning for him this morning, which is the reason why I set my fears aside and went in search of him. It didn’t take long to find him already in his office, though it would have been faster if the women that I asked would have been more forthcoming with me. Thankfully I ran into one of the gate guards as I was making my way out of the packhouse and he steered me in the correct direction. After knocking softly on his office door, I was surprised to find his Beta, Charles at the door instead of my Alpha. It is when my brain registers the two other people also in the room that I realize that Derrick is busy and I should probably come back later, no matter how badly my soul is calling out to be near him. Thankfully it appears that Derrick is feeling the same pull to be near eac
Salara’s POV“Is it always going to be like this?” My words break the comfortable silence that we have been sitting in for quite some time. His hands continue to run up and down my back in soothing motions, making me want to purr out in contentment. I fight back that urge though and let out a contented sigh instead. Derrick pulls me in close to his chest, his nose burying in the base of my neck as he takes in a deep breath of my scent, something I have noticed him doing many times before. Must be a wolf thing. “I am never letting you go, Salara.” He whispers in my ear, the sound of his voice enough to reignite my cooled passions. I let a husky chuckle tumble from my lips before I pull back enough so I can look up at his confused face. “I am glad to hear that, my Alpha, because I don’t think I could go on without you now.” A magnificent smile spreads across his face, chasing away the confusion, and making him appear brighter than he already does.I suck in a sharp breath, dazzled by
Salara’s POVNone of the three pack members say anything about the need to leave for an hour so Derrick can “calm me down” and I am forever thankful for that. I am not sure that I would have been able to fight the embarrassment if they had said something about it.We all settled back to where we were seated before my angry outburst and Derrick motions for the Elders to continue where we left off. Elder Winifred leans forward in her seat, a worried look on her wrinkled features. “We went and spoke with Gamma Orlando while we waited in order to get more information on what happened this morning.” She looks up at Beta Charles, indicating that he should be the one to relay the next part. “Orlando said that Justin wasn’t on the rotation for patrol last night.” He hesitates slightly before continuing on with the next part. “It was Savannah and Josiah that were supposed to be patrolling that part of the border, not Justin.”“We need to get the two of them in here to question them on why Ju
Salara’s POV“Have you spoken to your wolf yet?” Whatever I was expecting to come out of the older wolf’s mouth first, this was not it. I sit there in stunned silence trying to figure out what game the old woman was trying to play. I clearly remember Derrick telling me that made wolves are not given a wolf counterpart like born wolves. ‘Very perceptive.’ I hear from that voice inside of my head. ‘I like her!’ I can almost picture the grinning face of a white wolf, the expression looking ridiculous on her wolfish features. Elder Winifred gives me a sly smirk, a tinkle of laughter leaving her lips. “I can tell by the look on your face that you have.” She nods her head as if this was the most logical conversation to be having and not a completely confusing situation that has me completely lost. She reaches across the desk, patting the back of my hand with her wrinkled fingers. The feel of her hand against mine is oddly comforting. A sense of awareness moves through me at her touch, bu
Derrick’s POVThere has been no sign of Josiah since the day that Justin was attacked and killed at the border. No one seems to know if his and Savannah’s disappearance was before or after the attack. Though speculation is leaning towards them disappearing before the attack since they never showed up for their shift. This is nothing unusual when it comes to Savannah, but Josiah is one of the more reliable young wolf’s that we have. He is always eager to pick up extra shifts and hasn’t missed a single shift since starting a couple of months ago. This behaior alone should have raised some questions when he didn’t show up for his shift. Despite the two of them disappearing though, Justin should not have been left to patrol by himself when we are on high alert. The lack of rogue attacks that we experienced for a long time has made some of my warriors relax their guard a little too much. It is this reason that Salara and I are headed to the training grounds to kick some ass.My head turn
