Chapter 56

I couldn't stop the tears from falling down my face as Miguel held me close. My mind kept replaying the events of prom night over and over again, and each time I blamed myself more and more. Miguel kept telling me that it wasn't my fault, that I shouldn't blame myself, but I just couldn't help it. I felt so weak and feeble.

"I'll make it up to you, Bailey," Miguel said, his voice filled with determination. "I promise."

I looked up at him, my eyes still wet with tears. "How?"

"I don't know yet," he admitted. "But I'll figure something out. Just trust me, okay?"

I nodded, grateful for his support. We stayed like that for a few more minutes, just holding each other, until the bell rang and it was time for us to go to our next class.

The rest of the day was a blur. I couldn't focus on anything the teachers were saying, and I just wanted to go home and crawl into bed. But when I got to the parking lot, Miguel told me that he was taking me somewhere first.
