20. Marked

It feels like she is weightless as she rests against me. It might be my fault for being this tired at this point, but the weight of her head on my chest is nothing. And now that everything is still, I realize that the weight of the world that usually follows me around is nowhere in sight. The warmth of her body is more than soothing as she presses herself against my side and she tangles one of her legs with one of mine.

I had not planned for this to happen like this, but I couldn't help it. I could not push her away anymore. Maybe it was a bit too early, or maybe it was too late to accept such displays of affection. And this, tonight, was violating every single ground rule we had established. But it felt right in the worst ways.

Her fingers move over my chest, drawing random patterns. I feel the grip sleep has over me growing ever tighter, but the simple thought of her still being awake was haunting me and keeping me awake.
