Pulled away from danger, I looked up to see who had saved me and found myself gazing into Zarek's eyes, his arms wrapped tightly around me.

His dark brown hair was packed to the back, and he looked handsome as always. He stared down at me with those rich brown eyes that seemed to ignite whatever feelings I had for him.

“Are you alright?” Zarek asked, his voice low and soothing as it jolted me out of my thoughts.

My heart was still racing from the close call, and my legs felt like jelly. I nodded, still trying to process what had just happened. “Y-yes,” I stuttered, my voice barely audible.

Zarek's gaze held mine for a moment longer as if ensuring I was indeed okay. Then, he slowly loosened his grip around me, his arms sliding away from my body. I felt a sudden chill without his warmth, but I didn't dare move closer.

Anxiety gripping me, I glanced back at the car that had almost hit me. It had zoomed off into the distance, leaving behind a trail of screeching tyres.
