Chapter 28

Waking up in the middle of the night, I turn to the side and see that Rupert is still there. He snores lightly. It's not too loud, but the noise is there. I rub my hand gently on his head so as not to wake him. He huffs in his sleep.

Looking to the other side where the nightstand is, I look at the clock. 4:34 A.M. Right around that weird time that you could wake up but you could also just go back to sleep. At least for me.

I close my eyes to try and sleep, but it evades me. I lay like that for about twenty minutes. Still, I'm awake.

Opening my eyes, I think of what to do. Maybe I'll explore Dane's house and find the kitchen. I could use a drink of water anyway.

Scooting to the side, I make space between Rupert and then sit up. He stirs but doesn't exit his dream world. I reach over him and grab the pole the IV hangs from. Maneuvering it over him, I set it down on the other side of the bed.

I sit on the edge of the bed and wait for the momentary headache to fade. After it does, I stand
