31.2-Thoughts

I’m giddy, and now I know it will be a miracle if I get any sleep. I know she likes to cook, and the vast kitchen will allow her to craft meals to her heart’s desire. I bury myself in bed and turn on my side so my face is mere inches from Lola’s. Her bruises are fading, but she still has a ways to go, mentally and physically.

She can do that with us, away from anyone who brings her pain. Taking her hand in mine, I kiss her wrist. Simply holding her, I fall into slumber finally.

Soon Lola’s sleepy whimper burrows into me. Damien pauses momentarily before straightening up, about to leave and get ready as usual. I stop him remembering my second thought from earlier.

“I want to join training today,” I whisper to him.

I quickly explained how I would like it to be a surprise. Damien is stunned, as I haven’t been on the mat in a while. But I know this is the right thing to do today. It’s all for Lola and serves as the perfect apology for everything.
