Chapter 12

The day was starting off on a bad note for Emily. She had been elated at first about the interview, but her expression turned sour after the incident on the bus.

The lady had ignored her and walked out of the bus, failing to apologize and leaving Emily dress soaked in water.

Emily finally stood up and got off the bus, ignoring the eyes of people that stared at her and her wet dress.

“Did you pee on yourself?” Someone asked her and started laughing aloud in mockery.

Emily clenched her fists and bit her lower lip in anger as tears welled up in her eyes.

She sat down at the bus station, looking around and gulping hard in frustration.

After some minutes, she summoned up courage and stood up, deciding to head to the location of the interview irrespective of how she looked.

“Ohh! You’re here for the interview as well?” She heard someone’s voice beside where she stood.

She had arrived at the location where she met a big house, one which most individuals wished to live in.

It was in one of the country’s exclusive streets, and that stood as a major indicator that the owner was wealthy.

Emily froze as she recalled the familiarity in the voice she just heard.

Swiftly, she turned her face to glare at the person who have just talked.

It was the same lady from the bus!

“What the hell!” Emily muttered under her breath as she shot her a dead glare, clenching her fist and wishing that she could pull her hair until each strand comes off.

“You?” She asked the lady, who scoffed and wore a grin.

“Yes, me!” She said defiantly as she took a few steps closer to Emily.

“You came for the interview too?” The lady asked as she glared at Emily from her head down to her feet, as though judging her appearance.

“If you aren’t going to apologize to me for what happened earlier, then you can as well stay the hell away from me”, Emily said as she made to press the bell that was outside the gate.

The lady held her wrist and pulled her hands away, preventing her from hitting the bell.

“What do you want?” Emily asked, silently wondering if psychiatric patients now roamed around the city.

“You should leave. This job and role doesn’t suit you”, the lady commented as she squeezed her lips in irritation.

Emily scoffed as she stared at her in wonders, trying to ascertain how people were willing to fight for a job this lowly.

“Tell me, why should I do that?” Emily asked defiantly, not willing to be frightened or belittled by anyone.

“I want this job and would advise you to leave now that you can”, the lady threatened as Emily drifted off in thoughts.

Ariana had told her that the job came from a billionaire and so, the competition would be excellent.

“We all want this job, so you can as well keep quiet until the interview is over!” Emily yelled out in frustration as she walked to the doorbell again.

She clicked on the doorbell when her hair was suddenly pulled backwards forcefully.
