Chapter 72. Living with Lance

Ryn's tears have dried up. The girl sobbed nonstop during the night, sleeping through. Lance moved her into the flat-sole room. In the meantime, he slept on a ratty couch in the living room, or more accurately, merely laid down.

Lance regarded the room's ceiling with a cunning eye. He was pleased that Ryn came to him. But something cut him off in his tracks. Something that caused pain in his heart.

The ringing of Lance's cell phone interrupted his daydream. Grabbing a cell phone off the table, the man looked up to see who had contacted him. Lance rushed to answer the call after seeing a name on the screen.

He heard someone say, "Good morning," over the phone.

Lance turned to face the window and noticed that sunlight was already streaming in through the slack in the curtain. He rose from the couch and pulled open the window curtains. With a gentle sigh, the man worked the roots of his eyebrows.

"I didn't get any sleep at all last night," he murmured.

"Hey, is there any problem?" asked
