I’m in a good mood today, probably because I got a good sleep last night. I’d gone back to the lodge after the gathering to get changed for bed before going back to Zayne’s . We engaged in a heated bout of kissing. He had pulled me into his lap to straddle him and kissed me like crazy, pampering kissing over my neck and shoulder as he caressed me. There was a lot of fighting the first few weeks we stayed at the caves. I remember a lot of shouting and arguments. Often followed by tears and sobbing. Many people blamed Kent, why did he make us leave in the first place? Now we’re stuck here. His reply every time? Feel free to go back, because there you’ll just be sitting ducks, at least here there’s a chance of survival. As the weeks passed, after the food we brought with us dwindled, the males started going out to hunt and set traps. Not daring to venture too far from the caves. It would be months later before the rest of us felt safe enough to step outside those caves. I, however, slept or stared into nothing. My mind floating. I mostly slept through. Sleeping, it’s one of my favorite things, if not my favorite. It’s the only time I don’t think, the only time I can get my thoughts to stop running and turning and twisting like a labyrinth in my mind and just stop. I don’t wear a dress the next morning when I go to the compound to meet Zayne, I’m in a back shirt and dark jeans even my new kiss ass boots have come out to play. My hair pulled up in a high pony tail. I look like an enforcer, a Dark Woods enforcer, because that’s what I am. I’m not a lost little girl. I am a survivor. I know I’ve made the right desicion when Zayne sees me, his lips tips to side in a small smirk and he nods at me once. When I return, the lodge is silent, I make my way to my room and fall face-first into bed and I just shut it off, I really need to stop crying. I don’t think I’m a crier but this is well, it’s terrible. So, I just shut it off. And for a while, my head on a pillow, on my back and my eyes closed, I don’t think or cry or do anything. And it’s the most peace I’ve had in days. It’s hours later that I leave my room when I can no longer ignore the biting pangs of hunger in my belly. I’ll just get some fruit and go back upstairs. I nod in agreement at the suggestion. It was when I get to the bottom of the stairs I know I wouldn’t be able to escape any questions today or see anyone. The entire pack is here.
