“You look like death” Mile comments as I enter the kitchen.“Feel like it” I reply as I walk further into the kitchen making way for the fridge. Lily is sitting beside Mile with Mara on her other side, who has a book in front of her. And… the fridge is empty, so I make for the fruit basket on the counter instead snatching off two juicy looking apples. And a peach.I bite into the peach first, sweetness explodes on my tongue, dribbles of juice escaping down my chin. By the time I’m done with it my entire palm is stained with peach juice, I lick my lip and go for the apple next, biting a huge chunk out of it.“Why are you attacking the poor fruits” I hear Lily ask. I turn to her. “I needed something sweet” biting of another chunk this time I try to chew slowly. She gives me a resigned look. “You look like you need more than that. Let’s go sit outside with the others for a while, you could use some air”I shake my head joining them at the table.Mile tries to go for my other apple, I sho
I’m in a good mood today, probably because I got a good sleep last night. I’d gone back to the lodge after the gathering to get changed for bed before going back to Zayne’s . We engaged in a heated bout of kissing. He had pulled me into his lap to straddle him and kissed me like crazy, pampering kissing over my neck and shoulder as he caressed me. I’d never known my neck to be so sensitive until I met Zayne. I’d been damp between my legs, underwear soaked through and my arousal in the air by the time he pulled me down beside him on the bed. How he expected me to sleep after that was beyond me. But I slept off at some point. He was gone by the time I woke up in the morning. Thankfully when I slipped out of there, they were not interfering women to deal with. I’m still feeling chipper when I knock on the door of his office before opening it. “Hey, look what I brought” I shake the pack of candies over my head. “I see” he smiles and puts his tablet away and getting up. Zayne walks
In the next few minutes as while indie and he let apprentice clean Sky up, Noah filled us in on what happened.“One of the bastards tried to run, probably hoping to loose us in the woods and make a run for it, Sky followed. I brought him back because I don’t think he’s have made it back on his own”“Who is there now?”“Called Jida” he answers.Zayne nods. “The young ones when camping a few others should be at the springs. I want everyone accounted for and back at the compound before dark.” The blood flowing from Sky’s chest already slowed down to a tickle, they put an amber smelling ointment in his wounds and wrapped him up. Wiping down the sweat and blood off his chest and hair. Isis gives him a couple pills to swallow, By the time they are done he’s fast asleep. “You can return now, he should be up and about in the morning, only has to take it easy the next few days until he heals” Indie says as she gets up, her forehead fitted with beads of sweat. Isis busy herself by cleaning t
I blink at the female then take not one but two steps back. “I-I don’t understand” then I ask slowly “Do you know me?” Oliver wraps a hand around my arm steeping slightly in front of me, “I think we should go” I shake him off, “I want to know what’s going on” turning to the female I asked “Who are you? Why did you say that?” She pats her hair shyly “Those couples must have not told you that you were adopted-“ “Alina” a male voice growled cutting her off. “Step away from her. Right now,” I’m still standing there frozen when Noah comes to stand in front of me he takes my cheeks in his palms “Hey girl, you need to come with us okay?” I swallow a lump in my throat, blinking repeatedly. I nod. There’s another unknown male behind him, he stands slightly in front of the woman, shielding her I think. Who are they? Where are they from? Noah wraps an arm around my shoulder and walks me
There was a lot of fighting the first few weeks we stayed at the caves. I remember a lot of shouting and arguments. Often followed by tears and sobbing. Many people blamed Kent, why did he make us leave in the first place? Now we’re stuck here. His reply every time? Feel free to go back, because there you’ll just be sitting ducks, at least here there’s a chance of survival. As the weeks passed, after the food we brought with us dwindled, the males started going out to hunt and set traps. Not daring to venture too far from the caves. It would be months later before the rest of us felt safe enough to step outside those caves. I, however, slept or stared into nothing. My mind floating. I mostly slept through. Sleeping, it’s one of my favorite things, if not my favorite. It’s the only time I don’t think, the only time I can get my thoughts to stop running and turning and twisting like a labyrinth in my mind and just stop. When I’m sleeping I don’t have to think about why I’m here,
I don’t wear a dress the next morning when I go to the compound to meet Zayne, I’m in a back shirt and dark jeans even my new kiss ass boots have come out to play. My hair pulled up in a high pony tail. I look like an enforcer, a Dark Woods enforcer, because that’s what I am. I’m not a lost little girl. I am a survivor. I know I’ve made the right desicion when Zayne sees me, his lips tips to side in a small smirk and he nods at me once. The walk through the woods is silent, halfway there, Sky appears from goddess knows where, joining us the rest of the way. The woman is here today, the male beside her looks to be slightly older with dark brown hair and an angular face. He is a large male, dwarfing the female, wide shoulders clad in a dark brown button up and black pants. His eyes would have been an actractive blue if it weren’t for how hardened they look. Like blocks of ice, a shiver runs down my spine. Beside them are two other males, enforce
When I return, the lodge is silent, I make my way to my room and fall face-first into bed and I just shut it off, I really need to stop crying. I don’t think I’m a crier but this is well, it’s terrible. So, I just shut it off. And for a while, my head on a pillow, on my back and my eyes closed, I don’t think or cry or do anything. And it’s the most peace I’ve had in days. It’s hours later that I leave my room when I can no longer ignore the biting pangs of hunger in my belly. I’ll just get some fruit and go back upstairs. I nod in agreement at the suggestion. It was when I get to the bottom of the stairs I know I wouldn’t be able to escape any questions today or see anyone. The entire pack is here. Well, sacred heart anyways. I look from person to person: Mile, Lily, Kent, Winnie, Mara, Esther, Rafael, Mason, Liam, and Logan. And Ethan. Everything that’s left of our home. “Hey girl” Mile is the first to
“I will speak with my daughter alone.” The alpha of the silent wolf pack says the moment we step into the conference office the next say. On the walk here, I decided that this would be it. No more dallying around, I have other things to do than worrying about this. Training to complete, justice to seek, people to hunt, I need to get back on that. In the end, this would just be a setback like so many others and I won’t let it get to me. It doesn’t matter who gave birth to me, I know who my parents were and I know myself. And I know what I need to do. In the end, that’s what truly matters. Zayne looks at me and I nod, telling him I’ll be fine, he shoots a look at the other alpha in the room before walking in the other direction to his office. I take a seat on the opposite side of the table. Light blue eyes look at me, and I hold his unflinching. “Your mother says you still carry the loss of your people with you, you want to know
