As Virginia retreated to her room, her heart heavy with the pain of Michelle's hurtful words, tears streamed down her cheeks. The weight of the accusation and the shattered image of a harmonious family weighed heavily on her. She sought consolation within the confines of her own sanctuary, wanting to escape the harsh reality that had suddenly disrupted their lives.

His loving gestures and invitations to join him in bed were met with a polite but distant refusal. Virginia feigned illness and expressed her need for solitude, hoping to find solace in the sanctuary of her private thoughts.

“Are you sure you’re alright by yourself, honey?” asked Gerald. Concern was painted on his face. “I can sleep by your side if you want.”

Virginia only shook her head weakly in response to Gerald’s kind offer.
