Twenty-Eight

Arabella’s POV

“Is it Jack?” I asked her.

She looked at me with tears in her eyes “Yes”

I was stunned when she admitted this. Immediately, I started to wonder what Jack could have said or done to make her sad to the point that she cried profusely.

Jack is a good man. Two of them are as close as two peas in a pod so what could have gone wrong?

“What happened between you two?” I asked her.

“He-” she opened her mouth to continue but closed it and shook her head “It doesn’t matter”

“Come on, you can tell me”

She looked at the floor “It’s stupid”

“Don’t say that. There has to be a valid reason for why you were upset”

“Fine” she sighed “He said he doesn’t love me”

The words hung heavy in the air as soon as she said them.

For a second, all I could hear was the sound of my own heartbeat.
